Set a parental control plan for your family
Make a list of the types of online content that you consider inappropriate and the content you are ok with for your child. Discuss this content with your spouse and friends and enhance or streamline your list accordingly. Based on this, discuss the possibility to set parental controls and the home plan to implement. Decide what advice you will share with your child.
On a piece of paper make a white list of specific approved websites (or types of content) and a black list of what you want to ban. Crosscheck your list with the ones in your handouts. After that, practice setting the parental controls built in Internet Explorer:
- Open a new window
- Select “Tools”
- Select “Internet Options”
- Select “Content
- Set your controls you want for your child according to your lists.
Evaluate what level of control these settings can provide and whether you find them adequate. For more advanced options you may consider a paid-for solution. Refer to your handouts for suggestions.
