Monitor search history and practice safe search
Check the history of your child's searches on the search engine to understand what they are looking for, either intentionally, by entering the actual key words, or accidentally, for example by clicking on a pop up window or an ad or a suggestion from an application. Do this in two ways:
1. Open the search engine, for example, Google Chrome. Press the three dots in the top right hand. Click the button called history. You can see the list of searches.
2. If your child has a Google account, go to settings to view their search history.
Visit the websites or take a screenshot to do this from your own device at a later time. According to the content you see, you can decide if you need to discuss about any specific matter with your child.
Discuss with your child about online treats and share some safe browsing tips, for example:
- If we come across inappropriate content accidentally, we need to shut down the computer without clicking on anything else
- We should never identify themselves online, or give away personal information or passwords
Try to remember more safe browsing advice for your child or refer to your handouts for more.
